Millettia grandis, commonly known as the Umzimbeet, is a striking, medium-sized, semi-deciduous tree indigenous to South Africa.

Growth Habit: Upright with a rounded crown and attractive form
Height & Spread: 6–12 m tall, spreading 5–8 m wide
Foliage: Glossy dark green compound leaves, turning yellow before dropping in winter
Flowers: Beautiful sprays of purple to mauve, pea-shaped flowers in late spring to summer, very showy and nectar-rich
Fruit: Flat brown pods that split open to release hard seeds
Position: Full sun to semi-shade
Watering: Moderate – water well when young, drought-tolerant once established
Soil: Prefers deep, well-drained fertile soils, but adaptable
